February/March 2024

The last few months have been the absolute busiest months ever here at Mystery Room Mastering. So much so that I didn’t have a chance to do a blog post last month, or a proper one for March really.

The best place to follow along for any new releases or happenings is on Instagram, particularly Instagram stories.

There’s been a ton of great new releases of stuff that was mastered or remastered here including a great new album from power-pop legend Paul Collins, a Walmart exclusive vinyl release of the “Icon” compilation by Johnny Cash, a new album from Mean Jeans on Fat Wreck Chords, and so much more.

The releases for Record Store Day 2024 were announced and two of them were mastered here. One is The Cranberries “Bury The Hatchet (The Complete Sessions)” which is being released for the first time on vinyl. Limited to 4000 copies. The other is The Replacements “Not Ready for Prime Time: Live At The Cabaret Metro, Chicago, IL, January 11, 1986” which comes from the “Tim (Let It Bleed Edition)” boxed set that was mastered here as well and is just about sold out everywhere.

The Ergs! announced the 20th Anniversary Edition of “dorkrockcorkrod” which is an album that Rolling Stone called “one of the 50 greatest pop-punk albums”. The new version features a remix of the album by Steve Albini which was mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service, as well as a newly remastered version of the original mix which was remastered here. It comes out July 5th via Don Giovanni Records.

Also, I finally had time to add the PMC8-2 subwoofers to transform my already amazing PMC8-2 monitoring system into a full PMC8-2 XBD system. The room has never sounded better and I’ve been getting distracted by revisiting some of my favorite albums on this upgraded system instead of working.

I’ll be getting fresh studio photos taken soon as there have been some other changes as well but for now, I’ll leave you with this iPhone photo I took:
